Karnataka Indian Medical Association (IMA) President Dr M Venkatachalapathy has appealed to doctors to rededicate themselves in serving humanity and continue practicing amid the changed and challenging scenario of the modern day.
Dr Venkatachalapathy, who is on a two-day official visit to Belagavi as the state IMA president, was speaking at a ‘Doctors Day’ function organised by IMA Belagavi on Wednesday evening.
On the occasion, five senior medical practitioners from Belagavi, Dr Dileep Pathade, Dr Suhas Manjarekar, Dr Prakash Malur, Dr P V Havaldar and Dr Meena Dinanath Patil were felicitated and awarded for their lifetime services. Dr R G Viveki who recently assumed charge as the director of BIMS was also felicitated on the occasion. IMA Belagavi President Dr Anil B Patil and Secretary Dr Devagouda were present along with other office bearers.
Lauding the medical fraternity of Belagavi for their committed service during the challenging Covid pandemic, Dr Venkatachalapathy, however, said it was time to rededicate themselves to the profession while profession is losing its sheen amid rising challenges.
“Medical profession is facing lot of problems and is at crossroads,” he said, while condemning rising attacks on doctors and medical practitioners.He also appealed to more doctors to join the IMA
Highlighting schemes for doctors and their families, he said about Rs 12 crore were disbursed by IMA to the doctors and families who either lost their lives or went through severe suffering.
