Reiterating his full support to the proposed Defence Expo at Betul, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday appealed to residents of Betul not to oppose the project as it was in the interest of the state.

Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the new Commercial Tax Ward Office at Pernem, Parsekar claimed that the proposed Defence Expo would provide Goan youth with comprehensive information on the defence forces.

“When IFFI came in Goa, some office premises were handed over to the IFFI, and new facilities were created for tourists. The Defence Expo is a similar type of project and Goan youth will get complete information about defence. Hence, the government has decided to allot land of industrial estate for the expo at Betul on a temporary basis,” said Parsekar.

“The son of Goan soil is the defence minister of the country and he is making efforts to set up a project in Goa. Hence, our government will make efforts to co-operate in this regard,” he added.

Admitting that he was aware of local opposition over the proposed project in Betul, the Chief Minister said: “I have heard that the Betul gram sabha is trying to oppose the project. Keeping the interests of Goa in mind, my sincere effort is to bring this project to Betul.”

“Do not oppose this project for the sake of opposition,” appealed Parsekar.
