Imploring all farmers in the State not to succumb to politics, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday said the central government is working for the betterment of farmers and three new legislations would give more opportunities and growth of income to farmers.
Claiming that there has been no agitation against the farm bills anywhere in country except in Punjab, the union minister appealed to farmers in the State not to hold protests on a political agenda.
Javadekar was addressing a group of about 100 farmers from Mayem constituency at the Chorao Educational Society premises on how the three new legislations would benefit them.
He had arrived in Goa on Friday on a mission to douse the fires ignited by the Centre pushing through the farm bills, which farmers across the country are agitating against.
Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar, BJP State President Sadanand Tanavde, Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye and other leaders were present on the occasion.
“The government is working for the betterment of farmers and three new legislations would give more opportunities and growth of income to farmers. All care has been taken to safeguard the interest of farmers.”
“Many facilities will be provided to farmers, who are the backbone of the country. The Congress is playing a political drama and is criticising the government,” he added.
The union minister later interacted with some farmers and addressed their queries and concerns.
