Eye on polls? AAP feels Benaulim people’s pulse through its oximeter campaign

Eye on polls? AAP feels Benaulim people’s pulse through its oximeter campaign

MARGAO
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a mega campaign in Benaulim constituency on Saturday with its volunteers moving door-to-door to check the oxygen level of the people and educate them on coronavirus.

The oximeter campaign comes months after NCP Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao had distributed immunity boosters at the doorsteps of the people.

Led by Capt Venzy Viegas, who is perceived as AAP’s candidate against sitting NCP MLA Churchill Alemao, the campaign was launched in the villages of Benaulim and Colva, before the volunteers covered the entire constituency within a time-frame.

While around 26 teams will move door to door in all the 13 election booths of Benaulim village, around 3-4 teams have fanned out in the adjoining village of Colva with the oximeters.

“We have 26 teams in Benaulim village and the volunteers will visit every house to check the oxygen level of the citizens. They will not only check the oxygen level, but will explain what precautions they should take in the event the level falls,” he said.

While making a fervent plea to Benaulikars to avail the facility offered by the AAP, Capt Venzy said the volunteers will reach the doorsteps of the people wearing safety gear, including masks and gloves.

“This is our initiative to check your oxygen level. We request people to help us to help them. Our simple message to them is to join the campaign,” he said.

To a question, Capt Venzy said the AAP volunteers will leave a campaign helpline No 7504750475 wherein people can in case their oxygen level drops.

“People can just message the name, address, and the ward and our volunteers will reach their doorsteps within no time to check their oxygen level,” he added.

Sending a clear message that though AAP is not in government, it cares for the people in times of the pandemic, Capt Venzy said the volunteers will leave the oximeters at the doorsteps of the people who are home isolated and these could be returned after their recovery.
