Reiterating that the grants to the minority-run English medium primary schools will continue, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said the Government does not want any trouble on the issue of Medium of Instruction (MoI) during the election year.
Parsekar's statement assumes significance as it virtually indicates that the government is not keen on resolving the vexed medium tangle before the 2017 Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons, Parsekar said, “Our stand is the same. We will not give grants to new schools. But we have to find a solution to the confusion that has been created. When there are two groups having extreme opinions, then I don’t think it is right to take any extreme decision. We have to run the State.”
He however, said, “We don’t want law and order problems and during the election year, we don’t want any trouble. But under the prevailing conditions, we have no other option than continuing the grants.”
Referring to the manifesto of BJP during the last Assembly election he said, “We are also of the opinion that primary education should be in mother tongue. But there has to be a solution to the confusion that is created.”
