Reinstated Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar on Tuesday said the government must not entertain any further no-confidence motions for at least three months to enable the council complete the pending pre-monsoon works in the municipality.
Taking a jibe at the opposition panel, Gaonkar said the opposition panel must practice what they preach and refrain from moving another no-confidence motion.
“The opposition panel had approached the high court and appealed that since pre-monsoon works were yet to be completed, there should be an early decision to my revision petition failing which people could face issues.”
“The order to my revision petition has also come early as per their wishes and hence I appeal to the government not to consider or entertain any further no-confidence motion filed by anyone at least for the next three months.”
“We have only eight days remaining and we have to take up pre-monsoon works. We already had an election code of conduct for around three months where these works could not be taken up.”
“Now if any no-confidence motion is taken up again, it will only delay these works further and cause inconveniences to public,” said Gaonkar.
Stating that people were aware that his team had undertaken a lot of development in the wards, Gaonkar said the opposition should have offered its support, instead of moving a no-confidence motion. “The no-confidence motion against me has only shown that they could not accept the development works by our panel in quick time.”
“We had also conducted so many anti-encroachment drives and had instilled discipline among several vendors who would conduct business on all footpaths.”
