The Commercial Taxes Department has written to the Tourism Department telling it not to release the security deposit of the organisers of Sunburn Klassique.
This is because the organisers of Sunburn Klassique have not paid the GST even though the last date has gone by.
Sunburn Klassique a 2-day EDM festival took place in the state on February 23-24. The due date for paying GST was March 20. A month and a half later, the organizers have still not paid the tax to the government.
Commissioner of Commercial Taxes, Dipak M. Bandekar, said, “We have written to the Tourism Department telling them not to release the security deposit of Sunburn Klassique. We will take further action on the matter very soon.”
Mumbai-based Percept Live and Goa-based nightlife and promotions company called Klassique had collaborated to create Sunburn Klassique this year.
The company Klassique is owned by a businessman called Shailesh Shetty, while the chairman and managing director of Percept Ltd is Harindra Singh.
For the purpose of GST, the organizer of the event is registered with the State Government. This will make it easier for the government to recover the tax dues. Had the dealer been registered with the central government, then the state would have had to request the central government to empower it to take action against the organizer.
