With the pressure mounting from agitating public and voices against the project rising from within the civil society, Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is now being brought in to conduct a study to prescribe mitigation measures for the proposed double-tracking of South Western Railways track from Tinaighat-Castlerock to Caranzol.
WII is expected to submit its study report within two months, by January 2021.
Established in 1982, Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an autonomous institution of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It offers training program, academic courses and advisory in wildlife research and management. The Institute is actively engaged in research across the breadth of the country on biodiversity related issues, according to its website.
