Hamza Boys Porvorim prevailed over Goan Nook Reis Magos 3-2 via tiebreaker to win the Mix Friends seven-a-side football tournament, organised by Mix Friends, Porvorim, in an exciting final at Betim, Porvorim ground.
In an absorbing encounter, Hamza Boys took the lead through Micky who scored with a snap shot. Stung by the setback, Goan Nooks played a more attacking game but managed to create only a few scoring chances which they failed to convert. Hamza maintained the lead till the break.
After resumption, Goan Nooks showed urgency and their forwards put the opposition under pressure. Persistent forays bore fruit as midway into the second half, Dawne scored with a snap shot.
The match turned livelier as both teams pressed for a winner. However, the match ended tied in the regulation time. In the tiebreaker, Micky, Sanwil and Kashinath scored for Hamza Boys while only Akash and Dwayne found the mark for Goan Nooks. Hamza Boys were awarded a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a trophy, while Goan Nook had to settle for a prize of Rs 20,000. Anil Gaonkar of Hamza Boys was named as the player of the tournament, Dwane of Goan Nook bagged the best forward of the final award, while German Shaikh was adjudged as the best goalkeeper. In all, 24 teams participated in the tournament.
Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaocar was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
