The plan was drawn up after inputs from several government departments including Fisheries, Tourism, Water Resources, Public Works and Town and Country Planning. Existing as well as completed projects and facilities have been marked on the plan.
“The draft plan is ready and besides the submission before the NGT, we have also arranged a presentation for the Chief Minister and the MLAs on Wednesday,” Nagarsekar told The Goan.
The plan once finalised will replace the 1996 Coastal Zone Management Plan based on which the state permissions in CRZ areas have been regulated. The finalisation of the plan is also expected to give relief to the tourism industry especially private shacks which are on the receiving end of several censures from the NGT for being patently illegal.
Earlier, NCSCM had already completed a study on the beach carrying capacity of the state which offered several recommendations for reduction in number of shacks along the beach belt.
The draft plan, with major focus on mapping of sand dunes, assessment of carrying capacity of a beach in regards to temporary seasonal structures and demarcation of High Tide Line (HTL) and Low Tide Line (LTL), for the coastal state was earlier supposed to be presented before NGT by February-end.
