Unhappy Calangute p’yat to approach HC over delimitation process

Questioning the rationale of the process of delimitation of wards, Calanugute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Tuesday said he would approach the High Court for what he claimed was the government’s attempt to manipulate the polls by dividing the people.

MAPUSA:
“We are filing a petition in the High Court. The delimitation exercise is nothing but a devious way to manipulate and divide people,” Sequeira said. The Calangute sarpanch also criticised the government for throwing caution to the wind while conducting the exercise.
“The government has not maintained geographical uniformity while conducting the delimitation. A group of people from one ward has been placed in a ward which has no geographical contiguity with each other. This is nothing but an attempt to divide the people,” he said.
Sequeira said there was no way to get fair deal or justice as long as this government was in power and approaching the judiciary was the only alternative for the common man to get relief.
It may be recalled in 2012, Calangute panchayat had knocked the doors of State Election Commission against the manipulation in the delimitation process of Calangute panchayat.
The then secretary of the panchayat was suspended for his role in manipulation of the delimitation process along with the then BDO, talathi and a clerk.
