In a move that brought some cheer among the beach shack operators community, the Tourism Department has decided to advance the drawing of lots for allotting some 367 shacks across designated beaches along the 105-kilometer Goa coast to October 17.
As per the earlier schedule the process was to be carried out on October 22.
Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said the decision was taken so that allotment happens faster and the shack operators can get about the task of setting up the shacks and starting their business with the onset of the new tourism season.
The draw of lots will now be held on October 17 at the Mathany Saldhana Complex, Margao for shacks to be allotted along South Goa beaches and at the Paryatan Bhavan, Patto, Panaji for shacks on the North Goa beaches.
In North Goa, some 259 shacks are up for grabs while 108 shacks will be allotted on beaches in South Goa through the draw of lots system.
Meanwhile, Mandrem and Morjim beaches in North Goa have been added to the identified list of beaches where the shack policy will be applicable. Ten shacks have been earmarked for allotment in Mandrem while in Morjim the number of shacks will be 11.
