Expecting extremely heavy rains and fierce winds to lash the State this week, Drishti Marine, the State appointed professional lifeguard agency, has issued an advisory cautioning people not to venture into the sea during the next week.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall with high speed winds is likely to occur over north and south Goa over the next few days with wave swells rising to 3.5 metres to 4.3 metres. The State will also witness thunder showers.
Red flags have been posted across all beaches under Drishti’s surveillance indicating that these are strictly non-swim zones. Drishti has advised people to avoid wading into the sea and to avoid rocky areas, cliffs and hills on the shoreline.
These are very slippery during the monsoon season and wave height, intensity and frequencies are very high and one can easily get washed out. All rocky areas including those in and around Anjuna, Vagator and Tiracol are out of bounds during monsoons, the Drishti said.
Drishti has cautioned adults to keep a very close eye on children while on the beach and to not allow children to venture into the
waters unattended, no matter how shallow it may be.
