Over a month has passed since the school academic year began and yet, two government primary schools in Mulgao-Bicholim are still undergoing repair work as students of these two schools have been forced to attend classes in a rented house and a panchayat room.
A furious Speaker and Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar has lashed out at the GSIDC over its lethargic and negative approach in attending to these schools on a priority basis.
The Goan had earlier highlighted the plight of students who had returned to their schools for the new academic in the first week of June, only to realise that their schools were still being repaired. They were later forced to attend classes in temporary locations.
Taking serious note of their hardships, a livid Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had ordered the GSIDC to expedite the pending work in all schools. Despite his directions over a month ago, two government primary schools at Mansbag and Gaonkarwada in Mulgao are yet to be made fully available to students as repair work is still in progress.
As a result, students at these two schools have been forced to attend classes in a rented house and a panchayat room. Patnekar was furious with the GSIDC for having failed to complete the repair work of the two school buildings. “I had inspected the site soon after reports in the media and I had directed GSIDC to complete the work on a priority basis. But to my shock, hardly any work has been done in both schools and students are suffering due to this lethargic and negative approach of these government authorities. This cannot be tolerated,” said a visibly upset Patnekar.
“Education should have been their top priority and the repair work of these school buildings should have been completed within the scheduled time,” said Patnekar.
“It appears that the GSIDC officers and the contractor doing the work are not bothered about the plight of the affected students and teachers. Such attitude cannot be accepted and the chief minister should take strict action in the matter,” Patnekar added.
Meanwhile, Mulgao Sarpanch Praksh Arondekar was also left fuming and criticised the GSIDC over the pending repair work at the two schools.
