The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday cracked a whip against dumping of debris in the city.
Margao Municipal officials led by Municipal engineer Deepak Desai and Margao Police station in-charge PI Tulsidas Naik rushed to the Aquem ring road following information that a pick up van has unloaded debris along the road.
The Municipal engineer ordered the civic officials to impose a fine of Rs 5000 on the vehicle driver, insisting that dumping of debris or waste in the jurisdiction of the Municipality amounts to an offense.
The labourers were also told to load the debris into the pick up van.
The Municipal engineer told the media that the Municipal has decided to come down heavily on dumping of debris and waste along the road sides and at the dark spots.
He pointed out that the MMC has intensified the drive against unauthorized dumping of waste in at the dark sports by conducting late night vigil at the 58 dark spots identified in the city.
