The NCB-Goa Zonal Unit cracked yet another major drug network involved in Methamphetamine trafficking within Goa.

During a marathon operation spanning several hours, drugs valued at over half a crore rupees were confiscated while two persons from Rajasthan – repeat offenders – were arrested.

NCB Additional Director (NCB-Goa and Mumbai), Amit Ghawate, stated they worked on intelligence inputs that indicated the presence of an interstate syndicate engaged in illicit drug activities in Goa.

“Recognising the strict surveillance at airports, parcel offices, and land routes, alongside Goa’s status as a tourist destination, especially owing to the election code of conduct, a locally based syndicate saw an opportunity to facilitate narcotics distribution within the illicit drug trade,” he said revealing the chronology of the case.

The NCB then alerted various intelligence sources to detect suspicious activity. They identified a person named J Singh from Rajasthan with suspicious links to Goa.

“Recently, Singh was seen in Goa on a purported business trip, suspected to be for a drug deal. He was located around Candolim, and after physical confirmation, discreet round-the-clock surveillance was initiated. On the evening of March 27, our team intercepted him,” he said adding that upon confirming his possession of a large quantity of drugs, the NCB seized 532 grams of Methamphetamine.

A vehicle used for drugs deliveries was seized from the scene. During the investigation, an associate named R Singh was also arrested for providing logistical support to J Singh in carrying out the drug deal in Goa.

Ghawate stated that J Singh had returned to India last year after working abroad.

“As stated in voluntary statement, J Singh was in need of quick money and was convinced that he earn as such through the illicit drug business. He motivated his long-time friend R Singh based in Goa into the drug business. It would be pertinent to mention that both the arrested persons belong to same native place due to which they were known to each other for long time. Thereafter, J Singh plotted the scheme to procure the drugs and supply it into Goa with help of his friend R Singh who was already established contact base in various platforms,” he said.
