With a Red Alert issued for Goa, Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday announced that the gates to Dudhsagar waterfall have been closed. He urged people to stay away from waterfalls and other high-risk areas until the weather improves.

“The gates of Dudhsagar will remain closed to visitors. Please avoid venturing into other waterfalls as well, as they may pose significant risks due to strong currents, flash floods, and slippery terrain. Refrain from trekking or visiting these areas until conditions stabilise,” the Minister said in a statement issued on ‘X’.

Rane also asked citizens to follow updates from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local authorities, and to take all necessary precautions.

He said the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain across Goa in the coming days, which could create difficult conditions. “In light of the extreme weather, we urge all residents and visitors to prioritise their safety,” Rane said.

The IMD has issued a Red Alert for Goa, warning of very heavy rain in the next 24 hours along with thunderstorms and strong winds between 30 and 70 kmph.

Goa has already been experiencing heavy pre-monsoon showers since Tuesday due to a cyclonic circulation. The rain has caused severe waterlogging in several parts of the State, including Panaji.
