Underscoring the need for an effective public transport system, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said he has mulled village-to-industry public transport system to reduce congestion on the roads.

He said people will not bring their private vehicles on the road if there is a good public transport system. “We will ensure that the KTC bus network and the Mhaji bus service are further streamlined to provide better service as part of the public transport system. This will reduce the number of private vehicles coming on the roads,” he added.

Sawant reiterates crackdown on abandoned roadside vehicles

MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has once again expressed the government’s resolve and commitment to tow away all abandoned vehicles from the roadside within a time-frame.

Days after he issued instructions to the South district authorities to tow away abandoned vehicles, the Chief Minister told the media after inaugurating the Fatorda traffic police station that vehicles found lying on the roadside for more than eight days will be towed and scrapped.

“There will be no leniency shown to the vehicle owners, who abandoned their vehicles on the roadside and contributing to the traffic congestion and accidents,” he said.
