The PM’s of both states will however be barred from making any political statements.
Announcing the ECI’s decision, the Chief Electoral Officer for Goa, Kunal said permission had been granted for photographs of both, Costa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be on separate visits, to be displayed prominently at two locations: the airport and the hotel they were staying at.
“The Ministry of External Affairs and Government of Goa has taken permission from ECI. The ECI have given permission since it is a state visit and allowed for the PM of Portugal and India photographs to be put at two locations, the airport and at the hotel where they would be staying,” said Kunal.
He also said permission was also granted for pictures of Costa to be displayed along the road he would be travelling as well as flags of both countries. Both PM’s would however not be allowed to make political speeches and would be supervised during their events.
“The Portugal PM’s pictures can be put along the way and there is no objection against using the flags of both countries. At the events they attend however, they cannot be used for political purposes. No political speeches can take place and will be supervised by our team,” he said.
Among the several places the Portuguese prime minister is scheduled to visit his ancestral house in Margao, the NIO at Dona Paula, churches in Old Goa and a temple at Mangueshi. He is also scheduled to visit a factory at Verna and various institutes associated with the Portuguese government during his two-day visit to the state.
