A team of Election Commission of India will be in Goa on December 12 to hold a review meeting on the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) with the political parties.
The team headed by Director General Sudeep Jain will also comprise of ECI officers. Additionally, Technical Experts Committee of EVMs and VVPATs will also participate in the meeting.
Goa will go to polls simultaneously with four other states, most likely in February-March next with EC planning to complete the entire schedule by the middle of March so that new assemblies in these states could be constituted well in time before the expiry of their tenures.
The EC is also factoring in exams, climatic conditions and the requirement of security forces with the Centre and the states concerned for ensuring that the polls are free and fair.
