The Election Commission of India has written to School education boards in five States which are to witness State elections including Goa to frame their annual examination schedules only in consultation with the Election Commission.
The direction comes to ensure that there is no clash between the programmes of elections which are to be conducted in the States and examination schedules.
The terms of the legislative Assembly of Goa, Manipur, Punjab Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh are due to expire next year.
While the terms of Goa, Punjab and Manipur will expire on March 18, the terms of the assemblies of Uttarakhand will expire on March 26 while that of Uttar Pradesh will expire on May 27.
General elections to constitute new legislative assemblies are to be held well before the expiry of the terms of the legislative assemblies.
