MARGAO
Villagers of Carmona on Thursday had their awareness meeting as part of their series of meetings planned in the village against the agro eco-tourism project proposed in the paddy fields, mangroves and water bodies on land admeasuring 90,000 square metres.
Succoro Miranda said the meetings were being basically held across Carmona to brief the people about the serious consequences the project will have in the village if the project is allowed for conversion of paddy fields, water bodies (Ogors), cutting of mangroves on River Sal bank to settlement.
He said the series of meetings called by the villagers will end on Saturday after which the villagers will chalk out the future course of action. “The meetings are being convened to explain to the people on the nature of the land where the project is proposed and its disastrous consequences on the ecology and environment,” he added.
The Carmona panchayat has already opposed the project and has resolved to call on Deputy CM Vijai Sardesai with a plea to reject the application for zone conversion proposed by Ms Bullion Infra.
