With their hopes dashed as far as forming the State government goes, at least for the present, the Congress has now set its focus on Lok Sabha campaigning. From March 24, for a week, the Congress will hit North Goan towns on cycles to garner support for the Lok Sabha elections.
In a first of its kind initiative that will start from Aldona, between 30 and 50 Congress workers will get on bicycles and go to the people. Announcing the campaign to the media, Congress spokesperson Trajano D’Mello said on Thursday that the initiative was thought up with the view of having an environment-friendly campaign that would be “clean and green.”
“Our ‘Chalo Gao Chale Yatra’ will be a pollution-free campaign,” said D’Mello.
On March 24, the party workers will go to the villages of Aldona, Mapusa and Tivim; on March 25 to Mandrem, Pernem and Siolim; on March 26 to Saligao, Calangute and Porvorim; on March 27 to Panaji, Taleigao and St Cruz; on March 28 to Cumbarjua, St Andre and Priol; on March 29 to Valpoi and Poriem and on March 30 to Sanquelim, Mayem and Bicholim. After the conclusion of the campaign in Bicholim, the campaign will move to the South. The North Goa campaign will be flagged off by party president Girish Chodankar who will be at the forefront of the campaign. “The Youth Congress will also actively participate in the campaign,” said D’Mello.
