Examinations in schools scheduled from Monday were declared postponed indefinitely through a circular issued by Director of Education Vandana Rao, IAS on Friday afternoon but a clear decision on the SSC exam scheduled from April 2 onwards by Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will be announced on March 29.
The HSSC (Class XII) examinations scheduled by GBSHSE on March 21, 23 and 24, also stand postponed indefinitely, Rao said in a second circular she issued late Friday evening.
Rao also clarified that a final decision on the SSCE schedule will be conveyed by March 29.
“A decision on the GBSHSE scheduled SSC examination will be conveyed by March 29,” Rao further said in the circular.
Rao’s circular indefinitely postponing all school examination schedules was issued minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi made such an appeal to Chief Ministers of States with whom he held a meeting through video-conferencing to review the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ground situation.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant participated in the video-conferencing meet with the Prime Minister.
Sawant later told the media that new dates of the examinations will be announced after a review meeting on March 29. The Education department had earlier this week decided to cancel examinations altogether for classes I to VIII as the State follows a mass promotion policy for these grades.
Meanwhile, the GBSHSE has also indefinitely postponed the assessment work of the examinations conducted by it for the HSSC.
GBSHSE secretary Bhagirath Shetye said the assessment work at the two district level assessment camps which was scheduled to commence on March 21 (Monday) shall remain closed until further orders.
Shetye has asked ‘camp officers’ of the two assessment camps -- Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Panaji and Carmel Higher Secondary School, Nuvem -- to ask evaluators to report to their respective schools instead.
