While Hyderabad Police have been facing a setback in its search for Curlies’ alleged owner Edwin Nunes, the wanted accused is likely to petition before the Supreme Court this week challenging the dismissal of his anticipatory bail. The High Court of Telangana at Hyderabad, on October 6, dismissed his plea that sought relief from possible arrest in connection with a drug bust two months ago.
The Anjuna local continues to be in hiding as neither Goa Police nor its counterparts in Hyderabad have been able to track him down. The Osmania University Police returned to their state after failing to get any assistance from the local police to trace Nunes’ whereabouts.
Sources said the alleged accused has now decided to file an appeal before the highest court fearing a minimum of “60 days in jail in Hyderabad”.
“There’s some liberty in Goa. In many cases, an accused succeeds to get bail within a few days unlike in other states. Since Pritesh Borkar, and John Stephen D’Souza (owner of Hill Top Goa nightclub) are still in the custody (judicial lock-up), Nunes apprehends he too will be behind the bars for at least two months,” the source, privy to the development in Goa and Hyderabad, told The Goan.
The Hyderabad Police have already tightened the noose around drug peddlers in the two states although there’s an alleged lack of support from the coastal State.
Meanwhile, the JMFC Mapusa heard the Anjuna police plea for cancellation of Nunes’ bail in connection with a narcotics case registered in August 2022. The investigation officer has claimed that Nunes violated the bail conditions wherein he had to appear before the Anjuna Police soon after his conditional release.
Several summons also returned without any reply. The matter pertains to the seizure of drugs from the restroom of his now-partially demolished shack, raided after the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.
