Mortality continued to be the sore point of Goa’s war against the ongoing third wave of Covid-19 with eight more succumbing over the weekend thus spiking the cumulative pandemic death toll to 3610.

Of the eight who died in the 24-hour reporting period of Saturday-Sunday, as many as three have reportedly succumbed within hours of being admitted to hospital.

Meanwhile, new daily infections dropped to 1,582 but the positivity rate again climbed to 40.18 per cent as testing also dropped to 3,937 samples owing to the usual weekend slack.

The daily health bulletin also declared 3,232 as completely recovered significantly bringing down the recorded active case load of the State to 19,725.

Senior doctors who are at the core of the medical strategising to tackle the third wave are worried that in many cases people with symptoms are resorting to self-testing and isolating at home without consulting doctors.

“General practitioners are also advising patients with symptoms to treat it as Covid-19 and take the standard treatment regimen,” said one doctor who did not want to be identified.

The Union Health ministry had recently warned against dropping the guard and taking the Omicron variant driven third wave lightly.
