Stating that it is a matter of pride for residents of Porvorim constituency that the Secretariat, Legislative Assembly and High Court are all located in Penha da Franca village, Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai appealed to elected representatives to work hard with sincerity and devotion.
He was speaking at Socorro while interacting with the panch members of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo and Penha de Franca as part of his ‘Goa Sampurna Yatra’, in the presence of the Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, Mihir Vardhan, Bardez Mamlatdar Dashrath Gawas and panch members.
The Governor started his tour by visiting the Our Lady of Penha-de-Franca Church and offered special prayers. Fr Matheus Sequeira and Fr Antony Britto were present on the occasion.
Later, the Governor visited Shree Vetal Maha Rudra Mandir and was welcomed by committee members.
Interacting with sarpanchas, deputy sarpanchas and panchas, the Governor assured that the Raj Bhavan would follow up the matter with the government in resolving their grievances.
He informed that during his tenure of 18 months, he met thousands of people and realised that people in Goa are affectionate, loving and hard-working.
“The construction of temples and churches in villages is very peculiar. I will write a book on Goa highlighting my fond memories so that people who read the book are tempted to visit the villages of Goa,” said Pillai.
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte said most government offices have been shifted to Porvorim, while some are on the verge of shifting to Porvorim.
“As a result, there has been additional pressure on garbage, sewage, electricity and basic infrastructure of Porvorim, but we had been successful in providing basic requirements to the people of Porvorim constituency,” said Khaunte.
On the occasion, the governor disbursed financial assistance for dialysis patients in and around Porvorim.
Later, the Governor visited the WRD tank and bio-methanation garden near the police headquarters at Porvorim, as part of his visit.
Those present on the occasion included ZP member Kavita Naik, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar, Salvador do Mundo Sarpanch Roshani Savoikar Sarpanch, Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan, Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar and Block Development Officer.

Must help students overcome Covid impact: Guv
PANAJI: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has stressed on providing support to students who have suffered psychological stress and were affected due to the Covid pandemic.
He was speaking after releasing the annual academic magazine of Guardian Angel Higher Secondary School, Curchorem, in the presence of Principal Fr Walter Miranda and Teacher Girish Chodankar at the Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, on Thursday.
Pillai said all educationists, teachers, parents and other stakeholders must work hand in hand to assist students to manage this impact.
Principal Fr Miranda expressed gratitude to the Governor for releasing the magazine and said that it would enable their institution to achieve many more milestones.
