Four tourists including a Russian national were rescued from the northern coastal belt during the long weekend this Diwali. Drishti Marine, through a press statement, informed that two double rescues were reported at Baga, the busiest beach in the state. In the first incident, two Andhra Pradesh natives in their early 20s were rescued by Dristhi lifesavers after they were caught in a riptide that dragged them into deeper sections of the water. “Lifesaver, Sanjay was alerted about the incident and immediately left the shore on a jet ski to carry out the rescue operation. The two were safely returned to shore and medical attention was immediately administered,” reads the statement.
In another incident, a Russian national and an Indian citizen were engulfed in a large wave as a result of which they struggled to swim. “The two were rescued by Drishti lifesavers, Yuvraj and Nitesh, stationed on the beach. The lifesavers were quick on their feet once they noticed a commotion on the shore. The victims were rescued with the help of a rescue tube and surfboard. Their vitals were checked on shore, and they were given medical attention before being released,” it said.
Since the beginning of the year, 240 rescues have been reported along Goa's coastal belt with Drishti’s lifesavers trained to conduct rescues in rough weather and sea conditions.
A successful search and rescue operation involving a child was also carried out at Anjuna beach during the past weekend.
