With seven days to go for the election of new Zilla panchayat chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Friday said a host of criteria, including the 2022 Assembly polls, will go into the selection of candidates for the coveted posts.
He made it clear that seniority alone will not be the guiding criteria for a prospective candidate to stake a claim for the coveted posts.
Since the filing of nominations for the two posts is scheduled on January 7 before elections are held on January 8, Tanavade said the party will have an interaction with the newly-elected Zilla Panchayat members before finalizing the candidates for the two seats.
“The party has laid down a procedure for the election of candidates for the post of ZP chairpersons and vice-chairpersons. Seniority alone will not count, but the party will take into account all other aspects before finalizing the candidates,” he said.
The State BJP President said since the state is heading for the Assembly elections in 2022, the party will also take into consideration this aspect before taking a call on the candidates.
Saying that the BJP has a majority on its own to form the Zilla Panchayats, he thanked the people from the rural areas of the state for giving a huge mandate to the party.
