Asserting that the government and the State Election Commission (SEC) will decide on the question of contesting the ensuing polls on party symbols, State BJP President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Friday said the party is ready for any eventuality, saying it is now on a mission to win elections in all the 12 municipal bodies due in the next two-three months.
He also took a dig at Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat for his complaint that the Congress was taken aback by the sudden Zilla panchayat poll dates.
Tanavade said that while Congress leaders moved with Covid face shields during the lockdown, BJP workers went out of the way to lend a helping hand to the needy during the pandemic. “The government and the SEC will decide the question of whether the municipal polls will be held on party lines or not. But the BJP is ready for any eventuality and situation. Our workers are all geared up for the civic polls, irrespective of the elections being held on party lines or not,” he said while speaking to the media at the south district office on Friday after inducting Prabhav Naik and his supporters into the party.
He did not accept the theory floated by the Leader of the Opposition that the Congress fared badly in the polls as the government suddenly announced the polling date. “This is not true. Our party workers were all working with the people during the pandemic, while Congress leaders were issuing press notes from their homes. They were all wearing Covid shields, while our workers worked as frontline workers to reach out to the people,” he said, adding that people supported the ruling party in return in the Zilla Panchayat polls.
Saying that the municipal polls will be held in the next two-three months, Tanavade said the party will emerge victorious in all the 12 municipal bodies going to the polls. “The opposition tried to tarnish the image of the BJP government by raking up issues such as track-doubling, national highway, coal, Tanmar project, Melauli IIT project et al, but the people living in the villages decided to stand by the party to give huge victories in the ZP polls,” he said, exuding confidence that people in the urban areas of the state will give a similar mandate to the BJP in the ensuing civic polls.
“The BJP will win all the 12 municipal bodies going to the polls. Some opposition parties have been trying to unite against the BJP, but the people will remain with the ruling party,” he said.
