GSPCB term extended by 3 months

PANAJI
The term of the Goa State Pollution Control Board chairman Ganesh Shetgaonkar and the other board members has been extended by three months up to March 31.

The process to select a new chairman for the GSPCB and reconstitute it was already set in motion and is nearing completion. Government sources were however tight-lipped over the shortlist or likely candidate to take charge of the crucial statutory body. Shetgaonkar’s three-year term had ended on December 26 last.

Meanwhile, with complaints of water shortages rising, the State government has decided to revise the State Water Policy and has constituted a panel for the purpose.

The panel will take into account the draft policy which was adopted by the State in 2015 on the prompting of the Central government.

The policy aims to alleviate water shortages, particularly in the summer months, besides monitoring the major water reservoirs.
