It’s official. Aam Aadmi  Party State convenor Elvis Gomes is the candidate of the party for the  South Goa Lok Sabha in the 2019 election.

The name of Elvis Gomes was unanimously approved by the South Goa District Committee.

Briefing  the media, AAP district Secretary Roque Mascarenhas said that though  there were other probables, the district committee after much  deliberations was unanimous in choosing Gomes as the party candidate for  the South Goa seat.

“I have the pleasure to declare that Elvis Gomes  will be the common man’s VIP. For AAP, it means ‘Voice in Parliament’  and nothing more,” Roque said, while making an appeal to all other  parties to support Gomes so that Goa’s common man is represented and  heard loud and clear.

Further making an appeal to the voters this  time go for alternative brand of politics, he said the name of Gomes  will go before the State level committee to comply with formalities  where it will be officially declared along with that of the North Goa  candidate.

It was informed that the north district committee could  not come to a consensus and will again meet later next week to finalise  the

candidate.

Elaborating further, Roque said that the district  committee analysed the performance of past MP’s and found that all were  muted and fell far short of people’s expectations when it came to  fighting for causes of Goa.

“This was the main reason for which Goa was  seeing unrest with issues such as coal import, river nationalisation,  mining closure and most importantly large scale sale of land to crony  capitalists from outside,” he said, adding that Gomes was best suited to  confront ‘evil’ forces which had converged into Goa with the help of  various politicians who had placed their personal interest above that of  the State.

To a question as to what  would be party’s line of action if assembly goes into dissolution,  Roque said that the party has already worked out a plan for such an  eventuality and will reveal it at the appropriate time. “Right now only  Lok Sabha elections are certain and hence we are certain with Elvis  Gomes as our choice and hope that he will be Goa’s choice too,”  concluded Roque.

Others present were South District convenor Rodney  Almeida, Treasurer Brahmanand Naik and Sidharth Karapurkar.
