Emergency Control Room in Sattari to start from May 15

Sattari Deputy Collector Laxmikant Kurtikar chairs a meeting with officials at the Deputy Collector’s office in Valpoi to review monsoon preparedness and precautionary measures.

In view of the upcoming monsoon season, the administration has started extensive preparations to prevent possible disasters in Sattari taluka.

During a meeting chaired by Sattari Deputy Collector Laxmikant Kurtikar, various departments were instructed to take urgent precautionary measures.

The meeting, held at the Sattari Deputy Collector’s office, was attended by heads of various government departments. Sattari Mamlatdar Dhirendra Banawalikar and Joint Mamlatdar Vishnu Rane also took part in discussions on several important issues.

It was decided at the meeting that a 24-hour Emergency Control Room will start functioning in Sattari from May 15. The control room will continuously monitor emergency situations, and contact numbers will be made available to the public.

The Deputy Collector appealed to residents to immediately contact the control room in case of any emergency during the monsoon so that disaster management teams can provide assistance.

Dangerous trees, buildings

To avoid accidents during the monsoon, the administration has ordered inspections of dangerous trees and dilapidated buildings located along roadsides, public places, and near residential areas.

Special teams will be formed in coordination with Panchayat secretaries, Valpoi Municipal officials, and the PWD department. Panchayats have also been directed to submit lists of hazardous trees so that the forest department can remove extremely dangerous ones.

Drains, nullahs, streams

Authorities have been instructed to immediately carry out desilting and cleaning of drains, nullahs, and streams across the taluka before the monsoon. Garbage accumulated near bunds and water barriers will also be cleared.

During the monsoon, logs and debris often get stuck near the pillars of bunds, blocking the natural flow of water and creating flood-like situations. The Deputy Collector stressed the need for timely removal of such obstructions.

Focus on Anjunem Dam

Officials have been instructed to regularly monitor the water level at Anjunem Dam and alert residents living near riverbanks before releasing water from the dam.

Roads, electricity, water supply

The PWD department has been directed to repair damaged roads, fill potholes, and restore roads after underground cable works. Instructions have also been issued to replace dangerous electric poles and wires and trim tree branches leaning over power lines.

The Water Supply Department has been instructed to inspect pump houses and ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply. Authorities have also been asked to remain prepared to supply water through tankers in case of power failures.

Precautions at Chorla Ghat

Special precautions have been ordered in the Chorla Ghat area, which faces landslide threats every year during the monsoon. Departments have been instructed to keep JCB machines ready to clear roads whenever required. The Fire and Emergency Services Department has also been asked to remain alert to remove fallen trees immediately.

Emphasis on health, safety

The health department has been directed to conduct awareness campaigns on diseases such as dengue and malaria, maintain medicine stocks, and keep emergency ambulance services ready. Instructions have also been issued to install warning signboards in flood-prone areas and increase regular police patrolling.
