Eminent educationist Oscar Gonsalves and others hold a copy of the book ‘Oscar’s Odyssey’ at the funtion.

“A passionate educationist, Oscar Gonsalves brought a gentle touch to Sharada Mandir School, despite being outspoken. Sharing my vision with his qualities of leadership and utter commitment, he surmounted every hurdle that came his way and tried to guide the staff and students, while understanding his role of responsibility. His dedication and never say die spirit was seen the most during the pandemic crises. His contribution to the school has been tremendous,” stated Dattaraj Salgaocar, chairman and managing director VM Salgaocar Corporation Pvt Ltd and chairman, Sharada Mandir Trust.
Salgaocar was speaking at the felicitation function of Oscar Gonsalves, administrator at Sharada Mandir School. A book on the journey of Gonsalves ‘Oscar’s Odyssey’ was also released at the hands of Salgaocar in the presence of veteran Goan writer Damodar Mauzo.
After the welcome speech by the chairman of the Sharada Mandir Trust Jose Remedios Pereira, Nitin Narayan, a student of Oscar Gonsalves and a parent introduced the editor of the book ‘Oscar’s Odyssey’ J Mario E Fernandes.
While replying to his felicitation, Oscar Gonsalves thanked his students, the school and his family. “We are the product of our upbringing by our families and parents play a very important role in shaping our lives. It is the values that our parents instil in us, that make us,” said Gonsalves, and thanked Fr Basil Andrade who opened many schools wherever he went. “It was Fr Basil who offered a job of a teacher in his higher secondary school, and which I took reluctantly, but later enjoyed thoroughly. Fr Basil’s stories inspired me and taught me to be a good teacher,” said Gonsalves thanking all those who played a significant role in his making as a teacher, a headmaster and an administrator.
