Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar announced no new major road infrastructure projects in the state while promising to complete the existing ones even as he has announced minor projects like that of solar pumps for remote villages, railway overbridges and as well as enhancing the budgetary allocation to the Public Works Department by 40%.
size: 12px;">“I have enhanced budgetary provision of the Public Works Department by almost 40% with a total allocation of almost `2,000 crore of which ` 386 crore is for maintenance and new water supply schemes, `588 crore for roads and `15.60 crore for toilets under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,” Parrikar said.
Interestingly, Parrikar has allocated only `500 crore as a ‘contribution’ to GSIDC which is also expected to receive funds for projects from the budgetary provisions for capital works made under various departments.
As far as new projects are concerned, Parrikar promised sewage system for “Candolim, Bicholim and other urban areas of Goa.”
Parrikar also said his government was planning to build railway overbridges at Sanvordem, São José de Areal, Chandor and Cansaulim with help from the Railway Ministry. Parrikar also said that he would set up 100 solar water pumps to supply water to remote villages costing `20 crore with assistance from the central government.
However, a bulk of his thrust on infrastructure was to complete incomplete projects, which Parrikar admitted were not only schedule.
On his list is the work of the Khandepar Bridge, four laning of the Dhavali bypass, missing link of the NH4A, Margao western bypass, Canacona bypass including the Talpona and Galgibaga bridges entirely funded by the central government, which Parrikar said would be completed by 2020.
The Ribandar bypass which is incomplete, Parrikar said would be completed by December 2017. Parrikar also promised uninterrupted water supply, augmentation of capacity with new water treatment plants.
Water plants at Maisal will be completed by June this year, while that at Ganjem will be completed by December 2018. A similar plant for supply of water to Panaji will be completed by March 2018, Parrikar said.
Besides these, works of water plants in Chandel, Netravali, Canacona, Guirim Tuem and Porvorim will be completed before 2020, Parrikar promised.
Parrikar also promised to establish a gas insulated substation at Tuem as well as improving the overall improvement in power infrastructure including replacement of
conductors.
