With a major thrust on development, Parrikar has made provision for a couple of public-oriented projects for the city.
The Chief Minister has provided a special grant of Rs 20 crore for the development of special infrastructure projects in Mapusa along
with Curchorem.
For those who had to bear with the cramped public offices in the present government complex, the government has proposed a new government administrative complex at Morod in Mapusa.
Parents from Mapusa would also be a relieved lot, as Parrikar has proposed an integrated educational complex for Mapusa along with Margao on lines of Cujira.
Parents find it a herculean task to transport their kids to schools due to traffic chaos, as most of the schools in Mapusa are located in the heart of the city. Surprisingly, no mention was made of Ravindra Bhavan in the Budget which has been one of the key demands of the people in Mapusa.
It was, however, surprising to hear the Chief Minister propose to upgrade the Mapusa bus stand along with Panaji and Bicholim, as the present Mapusa bus stand was recently upgraded by spending around Rs 1.5 crore by the
KTC Corporation.
The new bus stand, costing around Rs 15 crore, is being constructed by the Directorate of Transport through the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), for which 20,680 square metres of land has been acquired.
Stating that during his previous tenure, he had initiated a new vision programme to develop a “Town Planning Scheme” at Down Town, Mapusa, Parrikar has proposed to notify this scheme during coming financial year.
Many areas in Bardez also stand to benefit from various proposals made in the Budget.
The Chief Minister has promised to undertake construction of 20 MLD plant at Guirim and 15 MLD plant at Porvorim.
Parrikar announced a new sewerage system in Candolim in the Budget even though the sewerage project in Calangute was yet to be completed.
The Budget also has a proposal to set up a new primary health centre in Pirna in Tivim constituency. The government also plans to upgrade Chapora jetty in Siolim.
In a boost to those living in Porvorim, the government plans to “draw a comprehensive plan by appointing a consultant for development
of Porvorim.
