The Goa Anti Tobacco Film Festival held in association with the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Goa Dental College and Hospital welcomed concepts from Goan producers and film makers for ad films and short films.
ESG had received a total of 23 ad films and 10 short films that was judged by a five members jury that included Dr Ujawala Prabhudesai, Dr Shekhar Salkar, Sharmad Pai Raiturkar, Bardroy Barretto and Anditya Jambhale. Five winners were selected from each category.
The winners of the ad film competition was Vardhan Dhaimodkar (first place) was given a cash prize of Rs one lakh, Manguirish Bandodkar (second place) was given a cash prize of Rs 50,000, Alton Bosco Coutinho won third place, Brijesh Kakodker won fourth place and Abhishek Naik in fifth place, each being awarded Rs 25,000.
The winners of short film competition were Mohit Kakodkar (first place) was given a cash prize of Rs one lakh; Donato Fernandes in second place with cash prize of Rs 50,000; Dr Krishnanath K Sanzgiri in third place, Sanjiv Prabhu in fourth place and Narendra Gaonkar in fifth place each winning a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
Raising the importance of film and spreading awareness, Health Secretary Sudhir Mahajan who was the chief guest said “Cinema is a powerful medium through which audience grasp the maximum. Actors are today actively involved in spreading the social message and awareness through films which have a great impact on our next generation. ESG has taken a good initiative to explore this medium effectively and bringing the young Goan talents for social cause,” he said.
Dr Amita Kenkre Kamat of the state dental college briefed the audience on the purpose of the festival and also mentioned that annually 7,500 people were counseled by her team at the college.
“The aim of the Anti Tobacco Film Festival is to spread the message of harmful or ill effects of tobacco use and also to decrease the occurrence of oral cancer in Goa, and to promote film art through non-profit screening of these films,” she said.
