ESG ordered to pay Rs 5.77 lakh for copyright violations

The ‘Kingfisher Village’ has cost the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) dear after a Sessions Court ordered the State government’s special purpose vehicle to partner in the organisation of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) to pay up Rs 5.77 lakh for copyright violations.

ESG was sued by the Indian Performing Right Society Limited (IPRS), a registered Copyright Society administering the public performance and communication to the public rights for lyrics and musical composition for authors, music composers/ directors and music companies.

IPRS accused ESG of permitting bands and artistes to perform songs at the Kingfisher Village event which were part of their repertoire.
