The Goa Cabinet on Friday has given the nod to appoint 40 part-time workers, who have been serving with the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) for over 15 years, as contractual workers. Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that these long-serving ESI part-time workers, of approximately 40 employees, will see a substantial increase in their salaries, rising from the initial Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000. Chief Minister Sawant emphasised, "ESI part-time workers who have dedicated more than 15 years to their service will now transition to contractual roles."
Additionally, the Cabinet has approved the signing of the Mine Development and Production Agreement (MPDA) with M/s Vedanta Ltd for its Mineral Block I, situated in Bicholim. This block encompasses Bordem, Lamgao, Mulgao, Mayem, and Sirigao villages. Vedanta is the sole firm to obtain Environmental Clearance (EC) for its mineral block.
Highlighting the significance of the mining agreement, Chief Minister Sawant stated, "We are set to ink the Mine Development and Production Agreement (MDPA), along with the approval for the mining lease deed. This agreement fulfils the earlier auctioned MDPA commitments, marking a pivotal moment for Goa's mining sector. Vedanta takes the lead as the first beneficiary of this agreement."
