Even on Easter Sunday, Bondvol lake is priority for Santa Cruz villagers

Save Bondvol Lake Committee calls for special gram sabha

PANAJI
The Save Bondvol Lake Committee on Tuesday said a special gram sabha would be held in Santa Cruz on the issue of Bondvol Lake on Sunday. Villagers, who form part of the committee, have raised objections to a part of the lake being reclaimed arguing the water body stood a chance of being permanently wiped off from the area.
Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, villager and committee head Arturo D’Silva said the panchayat as well as the villagers willingly decided to meet on Easter Sunday to discuss the issue of the dangers that face the local lake.
“In the one-and-half month the lake has been facing grave danger after its south side was being dumped and filled. The committee has already begun the process of filing a public interest litigation for preserving the lake along with its catchment area. On Sunday, the contents of the PIL and other issues will be discussed threadbare,” he said.
In its PIL the committee has demanded that the lake be restored to its original condition and make public its  owners. It has further called for securing it from further attempts at encroachment and restore its south side as per TCP provisions, as also remove all the barricades that were illegally erected by anti-social elements so villagers could get unhindered access to the lake.
