“Margin may reduce but that’s not a big deal. If I win even by one vote I will be the winner. But I expect to retain a good amount of margin,” D’Souza said.
D’Souza was speaking informally with the Mapusa media who called on him for the first time after his treatment for heart ailment.
D’Souza last month underwent a heart procedure at the Holy Family Hospital in Bandra West, Mumbai.
Speaking further, he said he had received good response from the public during the election campaign.
“Wherever I went, the response was very good. Besides, I had the advantage of a good organisation network of the party. Our party cadre put in good effort,” he said.
The deputy chief minister expects his personal rapport with the voters to take him home for the record fifth time. Besides, he also expects the inexperience of the opposition candidates to work to his advantage.
“None of the opposition candidates are in the position to claim anything,” he said.
He expressed confidence that BJP will romp home with more than a simple majority and therefore form the next government in the State.
“I expect BJP to get more than a simple majority primarily because of fragmentation of votes between the opposition. If they wanted to defeat BJP all had to come together, which is not possible,” he said.
Heading the government was not on his mind but if providence offers him a chance, he said he won’t shy away from the responsibility.
“I will not fight for it. If God wills then it could happen. I am not too keen,” D’Souza averred.
He further said last time he was keen but realised that MLAs don’t stick to their word.
“Last time the MLAs initially said you have to be the CM but at the crucial moment they said let the party decide. So what’s the big deal… so you can’t trust them,” he said.
