Event highlights risks of using illegal drugs

To mark the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Minister for Social Welfare Subhash Phal Dessai launched the programme by releasing balloons at the KTC Bus Stand in the city. The event, organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare in collaboration with NGO Human Touch, aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use and addiction.

Addressing the students, Subhash Phal Dessai stressed the importance of involving young people in awareness programmes. He highlighted that educating teenagers about the risks of drugs is crucial because they are the future leaders who can positively influence others.

Minister Phaldesai noted that India, with 65 percent of its population under 35, is the youngest country. He emphasised the need to guide young people away from drugs, advocating strongly for saying no to drugs.

Referring to PM Modi’s vision for a “Developed India 2047,” Phal Dessai expressed confidence that India will become one of the most advanced nations in the next 20 years.
