The Mapusa JMFC Court on Thursday extended by another two days the police custody of businessman and former municipal councillor Tarak Mangesh Arolkar, arrested by the Crime Branch in connection with an alleged Rs 40 lakh property fraud case.
Arolkar had already spent seven days in police custody. The Crime Branch is probing allegations of a fraudulent property transaction involving allegedly fabricated documents.
The development comes amid a parallel Enforcement Directorate (ED) action, with the central agency conducting raids at Arolkar’s office and flat on Tuesday. The searches were carried out at multiple locations as part of the agency’s probe into suspected financial transactions linked to the case.
Meanwhile, Arolkar has also moved a bail application before the court. The hearing on his bail plea was underway on Thursday.
The Crime Branch had arrested Arolkar following its investigation into the alleged property fraud, with police examining the documents and transactions connected to the disputed property deal.
The further police custody is expected to allow investigators to question him and probe other aspects of the case.
