Traffic was disrupted after trees fell on the roads at two different locations in Sattari taluka on Thursday.
A forest tree fell on the road and an electrical cable in the Polekarwada area of Dhave, while a cashew tree fell across the road near the primary school at Advoi.
Following information about both incidents, personnel from the Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the respective locations, removed the fallen trees and cleared the roads for traffic.
In the Polekarwada area of Dhave-Sattari, a large forest tree fell onto the road. The tree also landed on an electrical cable, causing an obstruction in the area for some time. After receiving information about the incident, a team from the Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services led by Leading Fire Fighter Satish K Naik reached the spot and cleared the fallen tree, following which traffic movement was restored.
In another incident, a cashew tree fell across the road near the primary school at Advoi in Sattari, disrupting traffic on the road. On receiving information, a team from the Valpoi Fire and Emergency Services led by Fire Fighter Dnyaneshwar S. Sawan reached the spot. The fire personnel cleared the fallen tree by afternoon, after which the road was reopened to traffic.
Sattari taluka has extensive forest cover and hilly terrain, and incidents of trees falling along roads and in forested areas are common during the monsoon.
Heavy rainfall, increased soil moisture, strong winds and weakened tree roots increase the risk of branches or entire trees falling onto roads.
