The South Goa Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a native of Uttar Pradesh to undergo life imprisonment for the murder of one Sanjay Yadav.
Additional Sessions Judge, Ram Prabhudesai also sentenced Kanhaiya Lal Yadav (36), who was convicted last week in the murder case of Sanjay Yadav (35), to pay a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. In case of non-payment of the fine, the convict has been directed to undergo one year of simple imprisonment.
The Court has further directed that of the total fine amount, Rs one lakh should be given to the widow of the deceased and the remaining Rs 50,000 should be deposited in the government treasury, the court of South Goa Additional Sessions Court Judge Ram Prabhudesai gave the verdict today on Thursday.
In this case, the Verna Police station headed by then Police station in-charge, PI Diego Gracias, who had investigated the murder case, had charged the accused for Sanjay’s murder by hitting him with a heavy objected on the head in December 2022. Yadav was also accused for trying to bury the body of the deceased at an under construction site at a secluded place at Sancoale to destroy evidence.
The Verna police had arrested Kanhaiya Lal Yadav under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
