Outgoing members of the Pilerne-Marra panchayat handed over a tractor to farmers of Pilerne-Marra for seasonal field work.
The tractor was handed over to the farmers near the Candelaria Chapel at Maina-Pilerne in presence of Pilerne Panchayat Administrator Dhiraj Chodankar, Panchyat Secretary Akhil Mahalkar, former panchayat members Amarnath Govekar, Karan Govekar and Sayaji Rane.
Speaking to media persons, former sarpanch Subhash Bandodkar said the farmers should do farming in a scientific manner using the latest technology.
“Farmers find it difficult to get labourers in Goa at reasonable rates for paddy cultivation. Hence, farming has become uneconomical for the marginal farmers. It is for this reason the panchayat has arranged a tractor for farmers.”
“This machine will reduce the dependency of farmers on labourers and minimise their cost. The tractor will be of great use to farmers of Pilerne. This tractor has been provided by collecting donations from well-wishers and we wish to thank all donors who helped the panchayat to buy this tractor,” said Bandodkar.
He informed that farmers will have to book the tractor at the Pilerne panchayat office and it will be given to farmers on a first-cum-first-served basis.
