Ex-RS MP Luizinho rules out returning to active politics

MARGAO
Former Chief Minister and ex-Rajya Sabha MP Luizinho Faleiro has ruled out returning back to active politics in the near future.

He, however, said that Goa deserves a better government and better governance, saying that unemployment is rampant in the State and there is hardly any development except for the signature projects.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the official function to commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Goan Nationalist Dr Francisco Luis Gomes at Navelim on Friday, Faleiro said he has received requests from some of the political parties to contest the Lok Sabha election from South Goa, but he politely declined the offer. “I do not want to name the political parties, but I was approached to contest the South Goa Lok Sabha seat with my experience in Rajya Sabha. I was even asked by a political party to organise the party work in the run up to the election. But, I declined to do so since I have decided, at least for the moment, not to join any political party,” he said.

Earlier, Faleiro along with the South Goa Collector Asvin Chandru, freedom fighters and citizens of Navelim paid tributes to Dr Francisco Luis Gomes on his death anniversary. Though the government had decided to commemorate the birth and death anniversary of Dr Gomes as official functions, the function was held low key in view of the intervening election code of conduct.

Faleiro, however, has requested the district Collector to organise the death anniversary of Dr Gomes on September 30 on a grand scale by involving around 10,000 students. He also requested the Parish Priest of Navelim Church, Fr Gabriel Coutinho to compose a mando on Dr Gomes, promising to compile the composition for posterity.
