A fake Apple support call centre allegedlytargeting victims in the US was busted on Monday, with 10 people arrested. Theillegal operations were carried out from a villa at Bambolim.
The cyber crime police said the accusedallegedly impersonated Apple Support Centre personnel and used laptops, mobilephones, VoIP services and spoofed US telephone numbers to target victims.
"The victims were shown fraudulent pop-upmessages falsely claiming that their iOS or iCloud accounts, or Apple devices,had been compromised or infected. The accused then allegedly induced victims topay for purported technical support services through gift cards, Zelle, PayPaland USDT, thereby obtaining unlawful financial gains," the police said.
In the raid following intelligence inputs, thepolice seized nine laptops, nine mobile phones, a TP-Link router and severalheadsets. A search and seizure panchnama was drawn.
The arrested accused were identified as KunalShah (41), from Ahmedabad; Devarsh Srivastava (21), from Noida; Abhijeet Parmar(25) and Brijesh Telaiya (28), both from Gujarat; Dhruv Dwivedi (29), fromAgra; Raj D Sangma (27) and Sofyean Laloo (19), from Shillong; Shreyash Ludbe(25), from Mumbai; Jude Pereira (32), from Chicalim, Goa; and Ravi Thapa (27),from Shillong.
