Fake Parivahan link leads to Rs 1 lakh fraud in Curtorim

Fraudsters duped a citizen of Curtorim to the tune of Rs one lakh after hacking the phone.

The incident occurred on September 20 when the husband of the complainant received an apk link pertaining to Parivahan app.

After the complainant clicked the apk file when it was forwarded to her by her husband, unknown accused person gained access and hacked her phone and further carried out a transaction of Rs 50,000 from Savings Bank Account of Bank of Baroda Branch.

Another transaction of Rs 50,000 was carried out from Savings Bank Account of State Bank of India Branch to purchase gift vouchers on Amazon Pay, thereby duping the complainant for an amount of Rs 1 lakh for fraudulent gain.

The Maina Curtorim police have registered an FIR under section 318(4),319 of BNS 2023 & sec 66-D of Information Technology (Amendment) Act 2008. Maina Curtorim Police station in-charge, PI Arun Desai is investigating the case.
