The Hubballi Railway Division of South western Railway has undertaken civil works at Bridge on the Sancoale–Vasco section.
RCC box segments have been installed by ‘Cut-and-Cover’ method, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and ensuring safer railway operations in the section.
“The existing bridge has an insufficient head clearance of 3.0 mtr, due to which important heavy vehicles such as firefighting vehicles, trucks, etc had restricted operational movement during emergencies. The new bridge with vertical clearance of 4.0 mtr is inserted beside the existing,” Railway Chief PRO Dr Manjunath Kanamadi said.
In order to complete the work at the earliest, the project has involved extensive resources, including Cranes: 700-tonne, 350-tonne, 14-tonne Hydra cranes, excavators and breakers: 4 Hitachi excavators, 2 Hitachi breakers, 3 dumpers & 2 JCB excavators.
Besides, 130 skilled and unskilled workers are actively engaged daily.
An ambulance is stationed on-site throughout the work to ensure safety. Divisional Railway Manager Bela Meena and senior railway officials have conducted special inspections and visited the site periodically to monitor progress.
“This bridge construction work is a significant step in enhancing railway safety, operational efficiency, and regional infrastructure, ensuring long-term benefits for passengers and freight operations in the Hubballi Division of SWR,” Dr Kanamadi said.
This is constructed on the request made by Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the Union Minister of Railways, he said.
